A Poem to Share for National Coffee Day

There are times when coffee with a friend becomes a means of grace and in essence is communion.

In celebration of National Coffee Day and good friends, here’s a poem I wrote years ago:

Friendship’s Café

Sunlight pours through plate glass
Puddles between cream pitcher and mugs
Warming well loved, familiar features
Steeped in history, old friends connect
We grind fine life’s troubles, global or intimate
Compassion filters time, difference, imperfection
So hope, acceptance, possibility brew
Laughter percolates, joy flavors the day
Communion at the corner café
